I suppose art has been in my life since the beginning as I have loved looking at it, making it, buying it, and thinking about it. My work life has been as a psychotherapist which in its own way is a form of art. This interest in people, feeling states, and the natural world has contributed to my desire to translate what I see and feel onto a canvas or wood panel.
I grew up on Long Island, NY, where water surrounded me and you can see that water is often an element in my paintings. I have lived most of my life, however, in Bloomington, Indiana, where the land and open space and simplicity have become an important influence on me as well.
Although there are a few pieces here painted in acrylic, since 2015, I have mostly worked in cold wax and oil, a medium that combines oil paint with a mixture of beeswax, resin, and solvent. Each cold wax and oil painting contains anywhere from 6-15 layers of the mixture creating pieces that are textured, rich and creamy often with a matte finish but sometimes buffed to a soft shine.
I'm mostly self taught but have had the good fortune to learn from artists such as Sara Post, Rebecca Crowell, James Scherbarth, and Lisa Pressman. I welcome your feedback.
